Songs of Milarepa and Drukpa Kunley

Drubgyud Tenzin Rinpoche

Deer Park is very honored to host this really interesting teachings on Songs of Milarepa and Drukpa Kunley, two of the most famous Tibetan saint poets, led by Drubgyud Tenzin Rinpoche. Songs and poems sang by these masters express immense poetic realization they had.

Milarepa
Jetsun Milarepa(c. 1052—c. 1135 CE) is generally considered one of Tibet's most famous yogis and poets, a student of Marpa Lotsawa, and a major figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.

Drukpa Kunley
Kunga Legpai Zangpo (1455 - 1529), was also known by other names such as Drukpa Kunley, Drukpa Kunleg, and "The Divine Madman of the Dragon Lineage" Kunga Legpa . He was a great master of Mahamudra in the Buddhist tradition, as well as being a famous poet.

Teacher:
Drubgyud Tenzin Rinpoche was born in Nepal. At the age of 7, he was recognized by HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche as the incarnation of Sonam Sangpo Rinpoche, a highly respected Drukpa Kagyu yogi. In 1992, he was enthroned in Bhutan where he met Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. The following year he went to Thupten Sangay Choling Monastery in Darjeeling where he studied for four years, then went on to study at Dzongsar Institute in Bir. In recent years, Rinpoche has taught in Bhutan, Australia, and Taiwan, and he is presently undertaking translation projects under the direction of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.
