SUMMARY:Ven Sumati (Kabir Saxena) – “Transforming Adversity into the Path”
DESCRIPTION:Cultivating Courage Whatever Happens….\n \nHow do we work with inner demons like doubt, despair, hopelessness and fear?\nDo we always need to be helpless in the face of anger, craving desire and bewilderment?\nAbove all, how can we cultivate the courage to begin to fulfil our own potential, as well as bring great benefit to our suffering fellow beings?\nCan we awaken a genuine sad and warm-hearted quality within ourselves so we can help to heal the sadness of the world?\n \nTo work with difficult inner and outer processes we have to first recognize and accept that they exist. Then, through skilful methods drawn from the Mahayana Buddhist tradition we can begin to get a glimpse of our marvellous opportunity as human beings to use our pain to wake up rather than close down, to generate compassion rather than to stay immersed in our fear and self-limitation.\n \nThese are the themes we shall explore in this five day course which will emphasize self-exploration based on some daily talks, group discussions and meditation sessions.\n \nThose wishing to attend are encouraged to read as much as possible from the following books:\n \nShantideva: Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life.\nPadmakara Translation Group, Stephen Batchelor or Alan and Vesna Wallace translations.\n \nChogyam Trungpa: Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior.\n \nPema Chodron: Taking the Leap.\n \nMingyur Rinpoche: Joyful Wisdom.\n \nHis Holiness the Dalai Lama and Victor Chan: The Wisdom of Compassion.\n \n \n \n \nCourse led by Bhikshu Sumati Sasana, (Kabir Saxena).\nAnybody wishing to contact me personally may do so at: kabirsaxena@yahoo.com\n \n                 Brief Bio Of Kabir Carlyle Saxena,(Losang Tenpa/Sumati Sasana).\n \nBorn in Delhi in 1956. Indian Father, English Mother.\n \nEducated in London and Oxford University.\n \nBA Hons Degree in Modern History, 1978.\n \nMet Tibetan Buddhism in 1977 while at university, took refuge-became a Buddhist.\n \nBecame a student of Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 1979.\n \n1981-83:- Studied Buddhist Philosophy and Lam Rim at Manjushri Institute, Cumbria, UK.\n \nIn 1983 was instructed by Lama Yeshe to buy land and start Root Institute in Bodh Gaya.\n \nReturned to India in 1983.\n \n1987:-Started Root Institute in Bodh Gaya.
