Arjuna’s Tapas: Exploring the Hero’s Journey, led by Naveen Vasudevan
This workshop is an exploration of the archetypal “Hero’s Journey” and the process of individuation, using films. Through carefully curated classics of world cinema, we’ll discover the various stages of psychological maturation and what it means to truly live inside-out in the age of mass socialization and conditioning. It is offered at 2 levels to make it easy for everybody to participate, depending on their time availability.
Level 1 will be from Nov 7th – 9th. In this module, the participants will get an overview of two or three different versions of the Hero’s Journey and reflect on where they are in their own lives. This is open to anybody above the age of 18 and having the patience to be able to watch up to two films in a day in a foreign language with English subtitles.
Level 2 will be from Nov 10th – 12th. It this module, going beyond the conceptual understanding, participants are invited to reflect deeper on their own life journeys through a process of creative storytelling. We’ll take the help of highly acclaimed post-war Japanese films and Pahari paintings as mirrors unto our own inner worlds. This is open only to those who have completed Level 1.

Daily schedules are likely to be from 9:30 am to 9:00 pm with two-hour meal breaks for lunch and dinner. Attending of all the sessions is necessary. Participants are welcome to sign up for Level 1 only or both the levels. Kindly indicate your preference in your registration email to Deer Park.
(The films listed above are an indicative list. We’ll be watching many of them but not all.)
